Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was met with harsh criticism when visiting the EU parliament !

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was met with harsh criticism from Croatian MEP Mislav Kolakušić and also from other members, when Trudeau visited the EU Parliament in Brussels –  24-03-2022

When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently addressed the European Union Parliament and warned of growing threats to democracy, he received an angry backlash from some elected members who accused him of responding to the recent anti-vaccine mandate convoy protest like a dictator.

… Trudeau’s Liberal government invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time in history in February, giving police and other authorities extraordinary powers to disrupt the protest.

After Trudeau’s speech, some of the 705 elected members of the assembly, who come from the 27 EU countries, were invited to respond to Trudeau’s remarks. Most MPs were forthcoming, but a handful took the opportunity to attack the prime minister.

… Bernhard Zimniok, a member of the European Parliament for Alternative for Germany, accused Trudeau of “trampling on democratic rights” by cracking down on people protesting against “disproportionate” public health measures.

… “Mr Trudeau, you are a disgrace to any democracy”, said German MEP Christine Anderson, political spokesperson for the ID group in the European Parliament through her party Alternative for Germany. And Anderson went on to accuse Trudeau of civil rights violations during the truck convoy protest, calling him a dictator who treats citizens like “terrorists”.

In 2013 Christine Anderson became a member of Alternative für Deutschland. From 2016 to 2018 Anderson was the parliamentary group leader of the AfD in the Limburg-Weilburg district assembly. She was elected to the European Parliament in May 2019. Der Spiegel described Anderson as an activist of the right-wing Pegida alliance. Before the election, she stated her goal was to “lead Germany out of this EU nightmare”. In the European Parliament, she is a member of the Committee on Culture and Education, the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age, and a deputy in the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection.

… Croatian MEP Mislav Kolakušić described Trudeau as someone who “tramples” on fundamental human rights and freedoms, saying that Canada once stood for civil liberties but now seems more like a “dictatorship of the worst kind”.

Kolakušić was one of six MEPs censured by the European Parliament for refusing to present an EU Digital COVID certificate to enter the assembly. He has aligned himself with anti-vaccine voices inside and outside of the assembly. Furthermore, he is not affiliated with any political party in the European Parliament.
